Hong Kong UnionPay card binding to QuickPass for consumption has no handling fee, while Alipay and WeChat have handling fees exceeding the limit.
Preparation before use
How to bind overseas UnionPay cards to QuickPass for use?
Only some overseas UnionPay cards can be bound to QuickPass. Instructions are provided later in the article.
QuickPass does not allow overseas UnionPay cards and domestic UnionPay cards to be bound to the same QuickPass account. Otherwise, the following prompt will appear: “Overseas users are temporarily not supported to bind overseas cards, please change the bank card [S10133]”. Therefore, they must be separated, using one domestic QuickPass and one overseas QuickPass.
QuickPass has only one APP. Whether QuickPass is domestic or overseas depends only on whether the first card bound is a card from mainland China.
If you don’t want to maintain 2 mobile phone numbers and only want to hold one mobile phone number, you can only choose between domestic QuickPass and overseas QuickPass.
If you want to use both domestic QuickPass and overseas QuickPass at the same time, then you must have at least 2 mobile phone numbers. For ease of use, it is best to meet one of the following:
- The phone supports multiple application instances, such as XIAOMI
- Have 2 phones
Otherwise, you have to log out and log in repeatedly. However, it’s not too much trouble.
It is recommended to use: a QuickPass registered with a +86 mobile phone number to bind domestic bank cards, and another QuickPass registered with a +852 Hong Kong mobile phone number to bind overseas cards, leaving the +852 mobile phone number for all overseas banks.
Two different +86 Chinese mobile phone numbers can also be used, with one +86 mobile phone number registered for QuickPass to bind overseas cards, and this mobile phone number left for all overseas banks, but this is not recommended.
Because some cards, such as China CITIC Bank (International) cards, can only leave the +852 mobile phone number to successfully bind to QuickPass.
What if all mainland banks and Hong Kong banks have registered the same +86 mobile phone number, and only registered for mainland QuickPass?
Answer: If you don’t want to go to the bank to change the mobile phone number, use a new +86 mobile phone number to replace the already registered QuickPass bound to Chinese mainland bank cards, and then use the freed up mobile phone number to register a new QuickPass and bind overseas bank cards.
Use
You can only use a credit card to pay at merchants that have enabled credit card payment. Generally, credit cards can be used with merchants scanned by barcode scanners.
Debit currency: Single currency cards can only debit HKD, and dual currency cards can debit 2 currencies.
Even if an overseas UnionPay card is not bound to QuickPass, it can sometimes be used when calling QuickPass for payment. When calling QuickPass for payment, click on the overseas card (only some APPs have this button), enter the card number, validity period, security code, and phone verification code to make the payment.
